I do not accept insurance or communicate with your insurance company on your behalf.  However, we will gladly provide you with a receipt listing any information your insurance company requires in an effort to assist you.  You will be responsible for submitting any paperwork directly to your insurance company for reimbursement.  Please talk with your insurance company regarding their policies and procedures for reimbursement if you would like to utilize your insurance benefits.

I do not accept insurance for the following reasons:

  • Insurance companies require a formal mental health diagnosis. Many of the issues we address in counseling do not meet the criteria for a diagnosis, such as marriage counseling, parenting issues, and emotional or relationship healing. Counseling is about being healthy mentally, emotionally, and relationally. There are many circumstances that do not involve a “disorder”.
  • I keep your records confidential. They are not shared with anyone except in the case of your express written consent, or in cases protected by law (e.g., your safety or the safety of others is at risk). When you use insurance to pay for therapy sessions, your confidential records become a part of your medical health records and may have an impact on your future employment and/or insurance coverage.
  • Counseling with me is a collaborative process and we determine the course of treatment and the length and duration of therapy sessions together. Length and duration of sessions are pre-determined if you utilize insurance.
